NM3 believes in modernism as a form of expression. NM3 deals with form and composition, ordinary abstractness as a source of infinite possibilities. NM3 wants to extract specificity through the strict ordinary: common elements, average industrial techniques, raw materials.
In this collaboration NM3 approaches the historical material Breccia Medicea dell’Acquasanta in a contemporary and abstract way. Stainless steel and natural stone coexist in a limited series that recall the past experiences of the most austere European modernism.

“The Past That Made Them” examines the role of stone in crafting contemporary art objects to narrate their historical origins. By shaping the material’s ancient layers using modern fabrication practices, the collection reveals a narrative embedded within.
The design, characterized by contoured elevations supported by vertical structures, draws inspiration from geological formations, such as fault lines and rolling hills. These gestures reflect tectonic movements to create a landscape on the surface. The panelled legs under the surface display the rich layers of earth and the material’s role as a natural archive.
By merging the notion of time with mindful resource utilization, “The Past That Made Them” preserves the materials’ historical value and addresses contemporary sustainability interests and ethical craftsmanship practices.

The ‘corner chair’ is a seating object and a perfect occasional furniture. It plays with a fragile balance between a delicate steel base, and an exaggerated marble armrest that is placed atop. The armrest has a form of a semi-circle that allows two-directional seating. The austere geometric shape of the chair is combined with the unexpected warmth of the leather seating, giving it a both sculptural and utilitarian appeal.

Sustainability
The projects in this collection were created from existing materials, without having to extract new blocks. A conscious use of elements with minimum waste, in order to create sustainable artworks.
Millennials VS Millions Years
A dualism between the new generation of contemporary designers and materials that come from millions of years ago, in the Mesozoic Triassic period (200 million years).
Layers / Multilayers
The possibility of working on stratifications of the material, as the natural stone itself comes from stratifications and calcifications.
All the artworks were created in artisanal laboratories in Italy thanks to high qualified experience of marble professionals.
